Cocktail ABV calculator

Estimate the strength of a drink made with one spirit, alcohol-free mixers and water. See how the recipe’s volume and dilution change its ABV.

A simple estimate for one spirit plus alcohol-free mixers and water. Enter all volumes in millilitres.

ESTIMATED DRINK STRENGTH
22.2% ABV
Combined volume90 ml

Assumes additive volumes and an alcohol-free mixer. This is a recipe estimate, not a laboratory measurement.

How this estimate works

Pure alcohol volume is spirit volume multiplied by its ABV as a decimal. Divide that by the combined volume of spirit, mixers and water. Multiply by 100 to express the result as a percentage.

A simple worked example

50 ml of spirit at 40% ABV contains 20 ml of alcohol. Add 40 ml of alcohol-free ingredients and the 90 ml drink is approximately 22.2% ABV before dilution. Adding 20 ml of water lowers the estimate to 18.2%.

Include the water

Shaking and stirring add water from melting ice. Enter your expected dilution to estimate the finished drink rather than only its undiluted specification.

Know the limits

This tool assumes volumes add directly and all mixers are alcohol-free. For multiple alcoholic ingredients, account for each ingredient’s alcohol contribution. Measured finished strength may differ from a recipe estimate.
